Week 8 - Recap (and my first semi-injury)

This week was better then last week with my running and motivation. I got going a lot more each day, however, I didn't do any long distance running days. Probably got up to about 5 miles. I did also injure myself slightly at the end of the week.

Friday I did some walking with a friend and then went swimming with another friend AND that same night went dancing! whoa! While swimming stretched funny (I guess) and ended up with a "charlie horse" or rather a knotted muscle in my calf....I really don't know what it was, but it hurt like a *&# $@! I finally walked on it at the pool and massaged it. I was just careful on it for the evening...well, until I went dancing. lol :) I gave it a rest on Saturday, but continued to massage the area that felt like a knot in it. Sunday, I got myself out early in the morning and ran....I felt great!

Today is the end of Monday and my calf is feeling good. The area is sore when I do different stretches, but doesn't interfere with my running so I'm good as far as I'm concerned.

Week 7 - recap

This week got really busy and I wasn't able to do as much running as I should. Here are my reasons or rather excuses....

1. I was recooping from last weeks running.
2. My son had a lot of football practices and I sat to watch instead of running.
3. I'm working on getting my daughter into running/walking.
4. I had some friends join me at the track during practices or after work that aren't big runners so we took it slower.
5. And this is the best one....it is okay to take a break, right?

These are all good, but I better not make a habit of it if I want to keep it up. I still have Sunday left and hope that maybe I'll get a good run at some point. We shall see. If not, I better step it up next week.
(okay, now that was enough motivational talk to get me in gear.)

Week 6 - Recap

I got a little carried away this week and only rested two days (normally 4 days). A friend of mine, Maria, joined me for two nights at the track during Cameron's football practice, but we speed walked. That woman is a fast walker! It worked some different muscles too...that surprised me.

I signed up for the Blackberry Festival Fun Run 5k in Bremerton...that was on Saturday. However, before I even did the run I had already run close to a 5k that morning...ha,ha! The night before I had gone out with a friend and wasn't able to drive home (a little too much to drink) so she dropped me off at my house. Me, not thinking about how I would get to the run the next day, let this happen. So, I woke up in the morning realizing I didn't have a car and decided to run to her house...probably about 2 miles away and up a HUGE hill. My friend, Maria, signed up too so I picked her up on the way to the run in Bremerton. When we checked in they gave us bags with shirts and stuff....you can't run with a bag! So with 10 minutes to spare I took our bags and ran back to the car---we were parked about 4 blocks away. ha,ha...so, I ran a lot before I even started the run! It felt great though. :)

I did however injure myself, but not during the run. During my running back to the car to drop off our bags I was on my way back and slipped on the top of cement stairs. It was slightly wet from the rain that morning and I was moving fast. I slid down a few stairs, but got back up and didn't injure anything major. Thank goodness I didn't twist a knee or ankle. I did hit my ass, side and elbow really hard. I'm working on pushing past it as it is the next day and I'm sore in places I didn't I would be from running so I think it is from my fall. Maybe when I grabbed myself I pulled some muscles.

Yesterday after my great running day I went out with a girl friend, Heather N. She just had a baby and will be starting back into running/excercising next week. She is also going to be running the Seattle Half Marathon and now only has 10 weeks to train. She is a fitness instructor, so I know she can do it! We ended up at the mall and did some shopping for a new excersise outfit for her. Me...I found 3 outfits! ha,ha...I couldn't resist. I justify them as they will be helpful when I sweat. Heather schooled me in excersise clothing...i guess I had no idea! The stuff that I've been using just holds onto my sweat and these will breath better. They are adorable too which makes it that much better! :)

Until next week! I push up to 7 miles next week! yahoo! (I'm such an addict)
